What a month May turned out to be! The sun was out, ice-cream season was back and Community Bike Rides were in full flow!
During the month of May, our Leaders led an amazing 72 Group Rides, including a number of rides which aligned with BikeFest's in Waterford, Kilkenny & Cavan.
Cork based Leader Mark Cronin led a Group Ride from Dungarvan along the greenway as part of BikeFest Waterford, here's what he had to say:
“The BikeFest event in Dungarvan was a truly enjoyable day. Starting out in a festive atmosphere, it was great to see the amount of people, including families on bikes.
It was also a reunion of friendships, generated from a bike ride event the previous year. The weather was amazing, befitting the Sunny South-East and the fantastic coastal views from the Waterford Greenway.
All types of bikes were in use and were welcome, as were cyclists of all levels of experience. On the way back there was a great food stop at 'The Railway Cottage' where we availed of some lovely food and alfresco dining in a very friendly atmosphere. The festive mood was also present here as there was further interaction, craic and banter with fellow diners.
After this, it was back to the Dungarvan with everyone absolutely overjoyed with the whole experience. Not to mention some plans made for future cycling!”
Not only were Group Rides like Mark’s spinning across the Island, but our committed Solo Riders were also out in force this May, completing over 750 cycles between them.
One notable achievement over the month of May was that of Dublin based member Gerard White, who completed his 400th Solo Ride, pedalling over 6100km in the process!
What’s the best thing about all of this? It’s that the word is spreading! During May, we welcomed more new members than in any of the previous 20 months! If you’re reading this and you’ve recently joined, we’re looking forward to seeing you on a Community Bike Ride soon! Likewise, if you're reading this and you know someone who might be interested in becoming a member, now is the time to get them on board!
