AXA Insurance dac’s sponsorship of the Cycling Ireland Community Bike Rides programme is set to end in April 2022 at the conclusion of a three year agreement.
The programme launched in 2019 with the aim of providing free social leisure rides for adults of all ages and abilities. Now three years later, over 100 trained ride leaders are active in the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland supporting new and returning cyclists on more than 2,500 rides to date.
In this short time, the programme has developed from a concept to a membership of nearly 5,000, many of which have gotten in touch to share how taking part has had a positive effect on their health, friendships, and overall wellbeing.
Cycling Ireland CEO Matt McKerrow thanks AXA for their support in bringing the Community Bike Rides concept to fruition:
“AXA has been a fantastic supporter over the last three years. We thank them for their belief in the concept and their investment in the programme, which positively impacts the lives of both participants and volunteers on a daily basis.”
AXA Insurance dac Marketing & Customer Experience Director, Antoinette McDonald said:
“As one of the largest global insurers, our purpose is to act for human progress by protecting what matters. This includes the physical and mental wellbeing of everyone in society and what better way to do this than helping people to get out on their bikes? I’m immensely proud of what we have started through the AXA Community Bike Rides scheme and look forward to seeing the programme continue to grow as Cycling Ireland develop it further.”

We thank our members and leaders for their support and look forward to continuing to develop and grow the Community Bike Ride initiative to reach even more communities across Ireland.
