Wheels for Wishes - Borrisoleigh Community Cycle Fundraising Page

Community Bike Rides recently caught up with Tipperary based Community Bike Rides leader Christy Reid who has been taking part in the Make-A-Wish Ireland ‘Wheels for Wishes’ campaign for the month of July. Christy gave us an overview of how this campaign resonated with him and why he decided to take part:

Speaking of the campaign which hit home for Christy, he said:

“Wheels for Wishes hit me at a great time. I was a very active cyclist and was suddenly hit with a bombshell of a treble bypass surgery at 47. I bounced back from this in time for my 50th birthday and gave myself a wish come true by going on a trip to France to climb the iconic Alpe d’Huez climb which features in the Tour de France. Another wish came true for me when I was out cycling one day and happened to meet my idol Nicholas Roche on a training spin. Over the past 3 years I have had multiple surgeries including a neck surgery in April of this year. I didn’t get the opportunity to cycle from then until July so I said it would be lovely to make someone else’s wishes come true during this time.”

Christy also spoke of the group that he is a leader of in Tipperary saying:

“I would love to thank my co-leaders John F and Martina along with all the lovely people that join us on our cycles and that have supported me all the way. Community Bike Bides are making wishes come true every weekend and I am humbled to be part of this.”
