The Barony of Bargy Spin

This is a 59 km Spin which covers a lot of the Barony of Bargy in the SW corner of Co. Wexford.

We meet at the GAA Park in Taghmon.

We cycle up through the village of Taghmon and head for Foulksmills passing through Goff’s Bridge on the way. At the top of the street in Foulksmills we turn left at the pubs and cycle to Wellingtonbridge and we pass Rosegarland Estate on our left just before the village. Here we cross the old railway line and the Corock River and we turn right at the pub after the bridge onto the R736.This road takes us along The Green Road beside the cockle strand at Bannow Bay. At the T Junction we stop and turn left and cycle up the steep incline into the village of Carrig on Bannow.

From Carrig we cycle down to Cullenstown where there are lovely views of the sea and The Keeragh Islands. We ride along the coast as far as Duncormick where we rejoin the R736.We stop at the junction just before Duncormick. This is a busy junction and there is limited visibility to the left so extra care is necessary. Just after the village of Duncormick we go right and from here we continue to Killag and then on to the fishing village of Kilmore Quay overlooking The Saltee Islands, where we will take our break for coffee.

After the break we leave The Quay and cycle north up to Kilmore Village and then on to Bridgetown. In Bridgetown we cross the bridge over the railway track and turn left and we cycle a few kms to Baldwinstown. We turn right at the four way stop in Baldwinstown and then continue for 8/10 kms to Waddingtown.

At the T Junction with The New Line we stop. We turn left and then almost immediately right. This quiet road takes us straight back to the village of Taghmon and the GAA Park where we met is on the opposite side of the road  just before the village.

About

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
