Depart Blackrock Pier (opposite Pronto Coffee) on Castle Road heading in the direction of Blackrock Castle, where we join the Greenway/Blueway with the River Lee on our left. Staying on this route for about 4km, we join the old Cork/Crosshaven railway route Greenway. Approximately 750 metres on, we join the Rochestown/Passage West Road at the junction of the R610 and L2474. We travel on this road for about 750 metres and rejoin the Greenway at Hop Island car park. We stay on the Greenway with the Lee and Lough Mahon on our right until the centre of Passage West where we rejoin the R610 at Victoria Dockyard, for a kilometre to Glenbrook. Here we take the Glenbrook/Carrigaloe Cross River Ferry to Carrigaloe on the island of Cobh. Leaving the Ferry we travel on the R624 to the town of Cobh with scenic views of the lower harbour and Haulbowline Naval Base on our right.

Arriving in Cobh, we will stop at JFK memorial park for a well earned coffee or tea (a coffee wagon with good tea/coffee and friendly service is located in the park). Our coffee and chat can be enjoyed looking out on to the Harbour and Spike Island. Suitably refreshed, we return to the Ferry crossing and return the way we came back to Blackrock Pier. If time allows, we can avail of another tea or coffee at Pronto Coffee, where I'm led to believe the coffee is excellent.

Another great Community Bike Ride today as part of Cork Bike Week. We welcomed a newcomer to the group and set off for Cobh. Weather was very pleasant as we continued on a nice cycle to Cobh via a greenway and cross the harbour via ferry. From the ferry via the road to JFK Park in Cobh. As per usual, the “Truly Scrumptious” food wagon provided excellent coffee, a delicious choice of food and of course, a great welcome. We were greeted here by a lovely lady who was awaiting our arrival, to enquire about Community Bike Rides. She was invited to join us for coffee and some craic and I believe she will join us on some future Community Bike Rides. On this stop, as on all our coffee stops, great conversation, social interaction, banter and craic was in full flow. Prior to leaving Cobh, we took the opportunity to view and get a photo of a visiting cruise ship and get some group photos. On our return trip, we came to the aid of a fellow cyclist who required some air for his tyre. Good deed done, we continued to the end of our bike ride for some outdoor “apres bike ride ” coffee, some chat in the atmosphere of the usual Sunday festival atmosphere at Blackrock pier. Another great day on a Community Bike Ride.
