Blackwater Beginner’s Loop
This is a level 26kms Spin on quiet country roads with lovely sea views.
We meet at the car park at The Mill Pottery/Frying Irishman in Castlebridge and make our way up the R741 for about one km. At Ballymartin Crossroads we turn left and then almost immediately right. We follow this quiet narrow road for 5/6 kms and pass through Garylough. When we reach Cooney’s Cross we go right and left and continue for about one km until we turn right again. This road takes us down to the main road at Killahard where we STOP. We then go left and right and cycle towards Blackwater until we reach Crosshue where we turn right. It’s about one km from here to the village of Blackwater.
We will stop for water breaks along the way.
We then leave Blackwater and head south along the R742 and enjoy the beautiful views of the sea on the left side of the road. When we reach Curracloe we will take our coffee break at the hotel.
After the break we continue along the R742 and go in the direction of Fahy’s Cross, but at the Oldtown Road we go right and ride about two kms until we reach Castlebridge. At the end of this road, we STOP and then turn right back toward the village. We continue cycling for a short distance until we reach the car park on our lefthand side at the Mill in Castlebridge where we began the Spin.

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
