Blackwater to Cahore Loop

The Blackwater to Cahore Loop goes from Blackwater to Chore via Kilmuckridge. From Cahore we return to Blackwater through the villages of Ballygarrett, Killenagh and Kilmuckridge. This Ride is practically all along the coast.

We meet at the Church Car Park in Blackwater and cycle down into the village where we take the R742 to Kilmuckridge with the sea on our right hand side. This section has some gentle hills and is a distance of about 8kms. When we reach Kilmuckridge we continue on the R742 for about 6 kms through Peppardscastle. When we reach Clonevan we take a right turn for Cahore. This little road takes us right down to the Cahore Castle at Cahore Point. We do a loop of Cahore and rejoin the R742 at Ballygarrett.

In Ballygarrett we turn right and after about 5kms we take a left turn at Ballynagam Crossroads. This road takes us straight to Killenagh. Here we turn left and left again at Porter’s Pub and we cycle straight back to Kilmuckridge through Coolatrindle, Mangan and Ballinure along quiet country roads.

When we reach the R742 just before Kilmuckridge, we turn right and we pass Sean Ogs Upton Court Hotel (formerly The Hydro) on our left We then cycle into the village of Kilmuckridge where we will take our break. There are several options for coffee in Kilmuckridge.

After the break we cycle back to Blackwater by a different route.

We ride about one kilometre out of the village to The Church and take a right. This road brings us to The Island where we turn left. After a few kms we reach Ballytarsna Cross and here we turn left again. These are all very quiet flat country roads with plenty of summer foliage overhead. We continue to Crosshue Crossroads through Courtlough and Castle Talbot. At Crosshue we turn left and we cycle down into Blackwater Village. The car park is on our left hand side after the church.

About

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
