Road/Hybrid Bikes

We start from Hotel Kilkenny car park and make our way through one roundabout to the main Callan Road. The road has a cycle path for about 4km and then a hard shoulder for another 2km. We then have a short section on the main Callan Road before turning left for Burnchurch. 2km on quiet, country roads takes us to Burncurch Castle. After the church and graveyard at Burnchurch, we turn right and continue for another 2km on a quiet road to Tullamaine, where we again join the main Callan Road for approximately 1km. At the brow of the hill, we take a left onto another quiet road. This is a short link road which after 1km brings us to the main Callan to Kells Road. Here, we take a left turn and after 6km on lovely, rural roads we reach Kells Village. We will stop for a well earned coffee break at Mullin's Mill.

After our refreshments, we leave Mullin's Mill and turn right. After 1km, we take a sharp left onto a series of short minor roads which are sign posted as a Kilkenny Cycle route. Eventually, after 4km or so, we reach a main road between Seven Houses and Danesfort. Here, we can turn right to intersect the main Waterford Road after 1km and proceed on the hard shoulder back to Kilkenny. Alternatively, we can turn left for Sevenhouses and proceed home on the main Kells-Kilkenny Road for 8km. Both options are approximately the same distance and arrive in Kilkenny quite close to our original starting point.

About

I am a leisure cyclist for many years. Over the last few years I have participated in many Community Bike Rides and like their camaraderie and ethos. I have completed the leaders course so that I can share that enjoyment with fellow leisure cyclists.
