Circuit of Wexford: 2

The Circuit of Wexford is a series of rides around the perimeter of County Wexford. Some of the rides are loops and some are linear rides (out and return), and there are about ten in total! All rides will be on Mondays from July to November 2022 and the total distance of the full circuit is approximately 260km!

Circuit of Wexford Ride 2: Kilmore Quay to Wellingtonbridge

Today’s ride which is about 40km starts in Kilmore Quay and goes to Wellingtonbridge.

Today we meet in the big car park beside the children’s playground in Kilmore Quay. We cycle north and then take a left for Killag. After a few kilometres we reach a T-Junction where we turn right and almost immediately left before arriving in Duncormick.

As we leave the village, the zig-zag road divides. We take the left turn, and cycle on through Lough. Ballyteigue Bay will be on our left and after about 5km we reach Cullenstown Strand. Just before the strand, we go right and carry on up the hill into the picturesque village of Carrig-on-Bannow. At the T-Junction in Carrig, we stop and then cycle out of the village and down the hill.

At the bottom of the hill, we go right and cycle along The Green Road where there are lovely views over Bannow Bay. This road takes us straight to Wellingtonbridge where we will take our break.

After the break, we cycle back along The Green Road and when we reach Carrig-on-Bannow, we go straight along the R736 as far as Duncormick. From here, we ride to Baldwinstown.

At the four way stop in Baldwinstown, we turn right and continue for 5/6km until we reach Kilmore Quay. The views over The Saltees and the sea from here are beautiful as we enter the car park on our right hand side.

About

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
