Circuit of Wexford 3

The Circuit of Wexford is a series of rides around the perimeter of County Wexford. Some of the rides are loops and some are linear rides (out and return), and there are about ten in total! All rides will be on Mondays from July to November 2022 and the total distance of the full circuit is approximately 260km!

Circuit of Wexford Ride 3: Wellingtonbridge to Arthurstown

Today’s ride of around 50km takes us from Wellingtonbridge to Arthurstown.

We meet in the car park behind Wallace’s Supermarket and make our way to the stop at the pub on our right called Tír na nÓg.

From here, we go across the bridge and keep to the left - as this is the main road it can be quite busy. We will be on this road for about 5km. At the crossroads for St.Kieran’s, we turn left and continue down this road all the way to the sea front at Bannow Bay.

At the end of this road the trail to Saltmills goes to the right. We follow the trail and arrive after 2/3km at the bridge in Saltmills where we turn left and then cycle to Poulfur. At the school in Poulfur, we turn right onto The Templar’s Way. After a few kilometres, we reach a T-Junction where we turn right again. It’s only a few kilometres from here to the seaside village of Duncannon with its huge beach and the magnificent fort overlooking the sea at Waterford Harbour.

In the village of Duncannon, we follow the one way traffic system and ride up out of the village to Arthurstown which is a distance of around 4/5km. The hill out of Duncannon takes a bit of effort but the views make it very worthwhile. At the T-Junction with the main road, we go left and ride down into the little village of Arthurstown where we will take our break.

As this is a linear ride we will take the same route back to Wellingtonbridge.

About

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
