Circuit of Wexford
The Circuit of Wexford, is a series of rides around the perimeter of County Wexford. Some of the rides are loops and some are linear rides (out and return). There are around ten in total. All the rides will be on Mondays from July to November 2022 and the total distance of the full circuit is approximately 260km!
Circuit of Wexford Ride 4: Arthurstown to Ballywilliam. 62km. Because of the substantial distance of this ride, we will take a short break when we reach New Ross as well as the break for coffee at Mannion’s Farm Shop on our way back from Ballywilliam. Please check on the participants’ discussion page for any messages I may need to send.
We meet for today's spin in the car park in Arthurstown on the right hand side after the junction at the pub. Having completed three Wexford Circuit Rides from east to west, today we start the south to north leg of the route.
We leave the car park and go left and at the junction we turn left again onto the R733. We cycle through Kilhile, and after a few kilometres we reach the impressive ruins of Dunbrody Abbey on our left. We stay on this road and continue through Horeswood and Ballybrazil. Slieve Coillte is on the right and when we reach the T-Junction at Ballinteskin we go left. The River Barrow is on our left when we reach the N25. Here we stop and then turn left again and we cycle for a few more kilometres until we reach the town of New Ross. We will take a short break on the quay in Ross.
We continue cycling up the quays passing the Dunbrody Famine Ship on the river Barrow, and when we reach the bridge, we turn right onto Quay Street. At the monument opposite 'The Tholsel' on Quay Street, we turn left and we ride out this road which overlooks the river until we reach the roundabout at Mannion’s Pub. We go straight at the roundabout to The Ferry House Bridge, and we stay on this road for about 10km until we reach our destination which is Ballywilliam. We then return to Mannion’s Farm Shop at Mount Elliot for our coffee break.
From here, we take the bypass and cycle through Irishtown. This junction has traffic lights and is a busy section of road. We carry on as far as the roundabout at the R723 and here we turn right. When we reach Marshmeadows at the bottom of the hill, we turn left and ride back to Arthurstown following the same route that we took earlier.

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
