Enniscorthy to Bunclody Loop.

This is a 50km spin taking us along the banks of The Slaney and the foothills of The Blackstairs Mountains.

We meet at the Mr. Price Car Park in Enniscorthy which is on the site of the old Donohoe’s Garage, on the Oulart Road.

Leaving the car park, we take a left and cycle to Scarawalsh through Clonhaston and Solsborough. Here, we stop and then cross the main road and cycle north, on the east side of the river, as far as Ballycarney. We continue on this road, until we reach the main Bunclody - Ferns Road at Strahart where we stop. From here, it’s a short spin into the village of Clohamon.

In Clohamon, we take a right and then a left and cycle to Brady’s Cross overlooking the town of Bunclody. There is a short steep hill down into the town with a stop at the bottom, so extra care is necessary. At the bottom of the hill, we go straight and we cross the bridge over The Slaney into Bunclody. We will take our break for coffee in Bunclody.

After the break, we go up Irish Street and The Wood Road and cycle for about 3km until we reach Ballypracus, where we turn left and enter the village of Kilmyshall. There are some hills in this section, but none are too difficult. We turn right at the pump in the village and we carry on for 6/8km through Cromogue, Templeshambo and then into Ballindaggin. There are beautiful views of the Blackstairs Mountains on our right hand side.

In Ballindaggin, we turn left and continue down the R745 for a few kilometres. At Monalee Crossroads, we turn right and then left and we enter the village of Marshalstown. At the church, we turn right and we carry on through Ballyorrill and The Moyne until we reach Enniscorthy. Vinegar Hill is clearly visible from here on a fine day. When we reach the town, we go straight at the small roundabout and we cycle down Bohreen Hill. This takes us down to a T-Junction at The Island Road where we stop. This is a busy junction. Here we turn right and follow the traffic into town and we stay in the left lane as we’re crossing the old bridge. As we leave the bridge, we continue straight into Templeshannon. We stay on this road for about 1km which leads us back to the car park at Mr. Price on our left hand side.

About

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
