Ferns to Ballycanew Loop 34
We meet today in the R.C. Church Car Park on the main street in Ferns.
Leaving the car park we go right. We cycle down the street in Ferns and go through the roundabout down to the Filling Station. Here we take a right on to the Old Station Road and we cycle for 5 kms to The Harrow on quiet country roads. On the way, we cross the Bann River at Milltown Bridge. We pass through Coolatore and then arrive in The Harrow, where there is an interesting 1798 monument.
In The Harrow, we go straight at the pub, and we cycle for around 13 kms to Ballycanew. On the way we go through Bolacreen Crossroads, Ballymore Demense, and under Carrigrue Hill which is on our right hand side. From here there are spectacular views of the coast, from Cahore up to Pollshone and beyond. We ride down into Ballycanew, leaving Boley Hill on our left hand side.
In Ballycanew, we go straight and then left onto the old Dublin Road for about 2 kms, until we reach Springmount Garden Centre. There is a very nice coffee shop in the Garden Centre where we’ll take our 20 min break.
When we leave Springmount we turn right, and we cycle back for about 1 km as far as Smith’s Cross and turn right. This road passes through Ballyoughter and after around 9kms we reach Camolin. At the Grotto we reach the main road where we go left, and we cycle through the village. This is a busy village, so we need to be very careful of traffic. Just outside Camolin we go left, and after a series of turns we reach Clologue. This road takes us back to Milltown Bridge. At the bridge we take a right and cycle back into Ferns.
When we reach Ferns we stop at Dunbar’s Pub and turn left. We go up the street and straight at the roundabout. The Church Car Park where we started will be on our left hand side.

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
