Ferrycarrig/Beechdale Loop

Our spin today starts in Ferrycarrig and takes us on the R730 to Beechdale and back through the villages of Adamstown and Glynn.

We meet in the car park at Ferrycarrig Castle on the north side of Ferrycarrig Bridge close to Ferrycarrig Hotel. We leave the car park and cross the road which is the busy N25, so we need to be very careful. Once we are all safely across, we go in the direction of Oylegate on the hard shoulder up the hill. We turn left at Kitestown, and cycle for about 3kms until we reach a T-Junction where we turn left. We cycle down through The Deeps and cross the Slaney over Killurin Bridge. Just after the bridge, we go straight and stop. We then go straight to the next junction and stop again. We go right and we ride all the way to Beechdale Garden Centre, which is a distance of about 12km. On the way we pass Bree Hill on our right and the Boro River, a tributary of the Slaney, at Ballinvarry Bridge. We will stop for the break in Beechdale.

Leaving the garden centre, we turn right and stop at the main road. Here we go left and cycle up the hill where we turn left for Adamstown. After about 8km, we reach Adamstown. In the village, we turn left and we continue on this road until we reach Wilkinstown Crossroads where we turn left again. After a few kilometres and one or two turns we arrive in Glynn. From here, we make our way to the main road at Carrigmannon Bridge where we turn left. When we reach Killurin we turn right, and we ride back over the River Slaney at Killurin Bridge. We continue for about 7km up through The Deeps and cycle straight all the way back to Kitestown. Here we cross the main road and go right, and as it’s the N25 again, we must be very careful. We ride down Ferrycarrig Hill on the hard shoulder and the car park is on our left-hand side just before the castle.

About

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
