This cycle coincides with “The Great Ireland Charity Ride” which takes place on Sunday the 26th of September. There is an option to make a donation to The Great Ireland Charity Ride which will be distributed to designated charities if you wish, however this is not a requirement to take part in this AXA Community Bike Ride and all are welcome.

Our ride starts from Hotel Kilkenny. We take the Kilkmanagh/Ballycallan road. After 11km approx., we pass through Ballycallan and reach Ballykeeffe graveyard. We take the second left turn and proceed through Foxcover and head towards Callan. After 7km we reach the Callan bypass. The group then proceed through Callan Town until the main crossroads in the town centre. At this crossroads, we take the left fork heading towards Ballytobin. 2km later, after crossing a bridge over the Kings River, we take a left for Knocktopher/Dunnamaggan. We then proceed on this road for 4km and take a left fork to Kells, where we will stop for coffee. At this stage, we will have completed about half of our journey.

Leaving our coffee stop at Kings Mill, we pass Kells priory and take a right turn for Kilree round tower. After 1km we take a left for Knocktopher. This is a quiet country road and after 8km we reach the edge of Knocktopher village. From there we take a left and proceed to Stoneyford which we reach after 5km. At this stage we will take another break.

The final section of our journey will take us to Ennisnag where we take a left at Sheridans. This is a fairly steep hill but it is short. After 2km, we take a right and after a few twists and turns we connect with the Sevenhouses to Danesfort road. At this stage we take a left and proceed back to Kilkenny City via the Kells road. We then return to Hotel Kilkenny car park after a scenic 60km cycle.

While the distance is long for this cycle the route is not too hilly. We will take a relaxed pace and there will be a few pit stops along the way.

I am a leisure cyclist for many years. Over the last few years I have participated in many Community Bike Rides and like their camaraderie and ethos. I have completed the leaders course so that I can share that enjoyment with fellow leisure cyclists.

Lovely large group for our cycle to celebrate “The Great Charity Bike Ride”. The weather was great and coffee and cake were equally good.
