Starting at the The Clock Tower in Westport, we will head in the Newport Road direction taking the entry point to the greenway at the traffic lights. We will move along the greenway in the direction of Newport and when we arrive into Newport, we will take a spin around the pier and exit back in the direction of Westport on the same route. Arriving back in Westport, we carry on past the initial greenway entry point and up a very steep hill at the edge of the town before moving along a small boreen which will bring us back on to a slip road, connecting us with the main N5 Castlebar Road. From here, we re-join the greenway cycle path, skirting around the outside of the town and bringing you back down to the Quay's of Westport. We will then cycle out to the point of the pier, turn around, and then move in the direction of Westport House, cycling through the grounds and exiting once again onto the Newport Road. From here, we will head back to The Clock Tower.

I do this cycle regularly and it is on the leisurely side. Having said that, there are a few challenging hills and if you have not been out for a while, you will feel it on your legs the next day! All in all, it is a leisure cycle to be enjoyed by family and friends.

About

I am a leisure cyclist located in the lovely landscapes of west Mayo. I have been cycling many different terrains, but mainly coastal track and road. I would be interested in meeting people who are keen to cycle through the beautiful coastal tranquil landscapes of Westport and beyond!

A nice ride out today.  I had one client who booked but was a no-show so it ended up being a solo ride.  However was more than enjoyable.  The Greenway busy with the bank holiday lots off Europeans.  Weather wise heavy and close weather not the most comfortable for cycling in but no rain which was a bonus.  All in all another ride logged hopefully with the summer coming more people will take part.  JohnPaul Staunton.
